Tether ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Tether mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you use Tether:
- Account information — your email address and password when you create an account.
- Profile information — your first name, partner's name, household details (number of children, work situation), and avatar colour preference.
- App content — recurring tasks, task notes, check-in responses, and shared plan data you create within the app.
- Usage data — basic information about how you use the app, such as features accessed and error logs.
We do not collect financial information, precise location data, or contact lists.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Tether Service
- Link you with your partner and sync your shared plan
- Send push notifications for reminders and weekly check-ins (only if you grant permission)
- Generate your iCal calendar feed when you choose to connect your calendar
- Improve and troubleshoot the app
- Produce anonymised, aggregated research insights about household mental load (see Anonymised Research & Insights below)
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database provider. All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
Data Sharing
We share your information only in the following circumstances:
- With your partner — task and plan data is shared with your linked partner within the app, as that is the core function of the Service.
- Service providers — we use Supabase to store and process data on our behalf.
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Anonymised Research & Insights
We believe the data collected through Tether has the potential to contribute to a broader understanding of household mental load and gender inequality at home. From time to time, we may analyse data across our user base and publish findings — such as average Partnership Scores, commonly imbalanced household domains, or how scores shift over time.
Any published findings are:
- Fully anonymised — all personal identifiers (name, email, account details) are stripped before any analysis is performed.
- Aggregated only — we publish averages and trends across many users, never data from any individual account.
- Non-identifiable — the published results cannot be used to identify you, your partner, or your household in any way.
Examples of the kinds of insights we might publish: "The average Tether Partnership Score is X" or "The most commonly imbalanced household domain is school admin." Nothing you enter into the app will ever be published in a form that could identify you.
If you have any concerns about this, you can contact us at hello@tether-app.co and we will exclude your data from any research analysis.
Push Notifications
Tether may send push notifications to remind you and your partner about weekly check-ins and tasks. You can disable notifications at any time through your device's settings.
Calendar Integration
If you choose to connect your calendar, Tether generates a read-only iCal feed of your shared tasks. This feed is accessed via a unique private token. You can disconnect your calendar at any time from within the app.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account by contacting us at hello@tether-app.co, and we will delete your personal data within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Tether is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict our processing of your data

Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
